John Top of the Summit is a one-week VR interactive narrative prototype set in a whimsical dystopian world. The player wakes up at the top of a mountain with no memory and must piece together who they are and who took over the world.
Drawing inspiration from games like Frog Detective, we combined a mysterious narrative with humor and a playful, kooky tone. I was primarily responsible for creating the 3D environment assets, using a geometric low-poly aesthetic and soft lighting to support the game’s cutesy visual style.
The player awakens alone on an unknown mountaintop, unable to see and with no memory of how they got there. As they explore the mountain, they discover audio journals that gradually reveal the history of the world and the three factions competing for control: a jazz-loving frog ensemble, a rigid society of park ranger swans, and a chaotic group of raccoon engineers.
After choosing a path down the mountain, the player encounters more journals and pieces together the stories of each faction. Their choices ultimately determine which faction rises to power and what the world becomes.
When the player finally recovers their glasses and regains their sight, they return to the mountaintop to see the world transformed by their choices. With multiple possible outcomes, the experience encourages replay and exploration of how different decisions shape the world.
